What happens in a controlled conversion?
Start with a source audit, then set the target file rules, convert a sample, review the result and only then process the remaining sheets. Keep a file list and exception record.
| Stage | Output | Gate |
|---|---|---|
| Audit | Source quality and file list | Scope confirmed |
| Sample | Representative converted sheet | Review accepted |
| Convert | Native CAD files | Exception log |
| QA | Source comparison | Comments closed |
| Handover | Native and PDF set | Register updated |

What should not be automated blindly?
Treat dimensions, symbols, text, layers, revisions, external references and design notes as review points. Import geometry can be useful, but it is not a substitute for checking the source.

What is the handover boundary?
Agree the native file version, title block, layers, naming, PDF output and file handling before work starts. Engineering approval remains a separate project gate.
Common questions
What else should the bid team know?
Does PDF to DWG conversion prove the drawing is accurate?
No. Geometry, text, scale, layers, revisions and design intent need human comparison against the approved source.
Can a raster scan become editable CAD geometry automatically?
No. A raster image is a redraw reference. The resulting geometry must be recreated and checked.
Who approves a converted drawing for construction?
The responsible project engineer and document control team approve the design and issue status. A conversion service does not provide engineering sign-off.
