What does the software documentation establish?
Autodesk's AutoCAD LT for Mac 2026 clipping guidance states that clipping a reference changes its display rather than altering its objects. Its PDF Underlay Visor guidance also distinguishes clipping, layer display and import. Those are different operations; a cropped underlay is not itself a converted native drawing.
DWG Conversion is independent and is not affiliated with Autodesk. Confirm behavior in the actual software version and preserve the original PDF. Do not assume every PDF contains extractable vector geometry or usable layers.

Which records prevent a cropped view from defining the scope?
Use one source register and separate instance records where the same page appears more than once. A useful detail crop may be intentional without replacing the full-sheet review.
| Record | Check | Disposition |
|---|---|---|
| Source PDF | Controlled filename, revision and page | Preserve the original source |
| Underlay instance | Actual page and placement | Map each instance to the source |
| Clip boundary | Visible area and intended purpose | Record whether working detail or final scope |
| Other display controls | Layer visibility and reference state | Review separately from clipping |
| Full page review | Notes, legends and continuation references | Identify content outside the crop |
| Native conversion | Required objects and unresolved items | Do not count the underlay as rebuilt geometry |
| Final plot | Agreed sheet compared with source | Close omissions through controlled review |
What omission can a useful crop conceal?
Illustrative example. A fictional electrical sheet contains a feeder diagram in the center and a continuation note in the right margin. A drafter clips the PDF underlay around the diagram to make a clean working area. The plotted crop contains the diagram but not the continuation note.
The reviewer compares the full original page with the conversion scope, logs the missing note and obtains the authorized treatment. The remedy may be to reproduce the required note in the new drawing or revise the defined output scope, not to treat invisible content as irrelevant. No real project drawing is used in this example.
What should the final review distinguish?
Check the source content, intended conversion deliverable and plotted result separately. A hidden clip frame does not demonstrate that the entire source is visible. A full-page underlay can still have layer visibility or source readability issues. Conversely, an intentional detail crop does not prove an omission if the agreed deliverable explicitly covers only that detail.
Retain the reviewer decision and original source references. Do not change engineering content simply to fit a crop. Engineering sign-off is performed only by the registered engineer on the job.
Common questions
What else should the bid team know?
Does clipping delete the original PDF content?
No. The cited reference clipping operation changes display.
Is an attached underlay a native drawing conversion?
No. Define and check the required native deliverable separately.
Can a detail crop be legitimate?
Yes, when its purpose and the agreed output scope are explicit.
